About Harold

Harold Bakker is the creator, founder and owner of HBH Advice. He is married to Thalassa and father of 4 wonderful boys.

His experience with horses is very extensive. From a young age, Harold already visited the trotting track in Wolvega, which was located a stone’s throw away from his parental home. After riding at a riding school himself for a few years, it became clear that his interest in trotting sport was even greater, especially because his younger brother André shared the same hobby and later became very successful working in it.

After many visits to various trotting tracks in the Netherlands and abroad and having worked at two trotting stables/training yards, another 9 years of work as a sports journalist followed.

After marrying Thalassa, Harold started working at the riding school, which was started by Thalassa in 2013. During his work at the riding school, the idea arose to start doing something with natural-based supplements. In the evenings and/or at night, while feeding the children, knowledge was gained through self-study. This was then tested on the riding school horses and ponies. This turned out to be very successful. After the horses of boarding clients and lesson horses also benefited from the custom-made herbal mixes, the decision was made in March 2023 to start HBH.

Our services

The services we offer include nutritional advice, supplement advice and creating custom herbal mixes tailored to the needs of the four-legged animal. We do this in our own unique way, always looking at the situation at that specific moment. What makes this unique is that we can adjust the mix every month based on any demonstrable issues at that time.

You can also request advice from us for the purchase of a horse/pony. This will take place at the location where the horse/pony is located at that moment. After evaluating the horse/pony, an evaluation will be provided either on location or after the visit, including advice.

In addition, upon request we can provide breeding advice. This is done by requesting specific information about the mare and selecting a suitable stallion to match. If the breeder has certain preferences, we will of course take those into account.

Finally, we also focus on purchase advice at various horse auctions in the Netherlands and abroad. This can be done through standard or extended advice. The standard advice is based on an analysis of the pedigree, as stated in the auction program book. The extended advice is the same as the standard advice, but also includes a visit to the auction location and a visual analysis on site. The standard advice will be provided on paper, while the extended advice will be supplemented on site by handwritten notes added to the standard advice document and then handed over to the applicant.
